3 Players Who Won't Be on the Twins Postseason Roster
By Parker White
The Minnesota Twins' playoff aspirations are in their own hands, as they have a 3.5-game lead over the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central. Minnesota doesn't have the same kind of depth as other top-tier teams in the American League, so the front office has some real decisions to make as to who they want to ride with in the ALDS.
Here are three players who won't be on the Twins postseason roster.
3. LHP Devin Smeltzer
Devin Smeltzer could be a left-handed option coming out of the Twins bullpen in October, but his inability to get lefties out is concerning. Left-handed batters are hitting .324 (12-for-37) with four extra-base hits and only 10 strikeouts.
2. RHP Brusdar Graterol
When the Twins called up their top pitching prospect Brusdar Graterol, the idea was they'd use him and his upper-90's fastball out of the bullpen and maybe have him on the postseason roster. Unfortunately, he hasn't transitioned to the bullpen very well, and in four appearances has given up three runs on four hits and two walks in three innings of work.
1. C Willians Astudillo
Willians Astudillo (a.k.a La Tortuga) is beloved by the Twins fanbase, but there isn't a need for a third catcher on the playoff roster with Mitch Garver and Jason Castro in place. Yes, he has some positional versatility, but outside of him heating up offensively, it's hard to find a spot on the roster for him, as he's hitting just .267 with 11 extra-base hits and a .668 OPS.
