3 Players Who Won't Make the Dodgers Postseason Roster

With the NL West already wrapped up (seriously), the Los Angeles Dodgers have turned their eyes towards the playoffs, using the next few weeks to determine who they plan to carry on the roster. Talent abounds for the team from Chavez Ravine, but they can only carry so many men, and unfortunately, these three players will be left out of the mix come October.

3. Jedd Gyorko

The Dodgers picked up Gyorko in the middle of the season in the hopes of reviving his bat and turning him back into the quality utility player that he once was, but things just haven't worked out. The veteran infield has put up an abysmal .407 OPS in 28 plate appearances for Los Angeles, and it's just tough to see him making his way onto the roster with all of the depth in front of him in the infield.

2. Dustin May

There were high hopes for May when he was called up mid-year, but he's failed to live up to them. He's been wildly mediocre, posting a 4.55 ERA in 27.2 innings of work between the starting rotation and the bullpen. He's also managed -0.3 bWAR, and while his 3.39 FIP suggests he's been rather unlucky, there really isn't much of a reason to have the rookie on the roster when there are plenty of other choices with better numbers and playoff experience.

1. Austin Barnes

Catcher is yet another position in which the Dodgers have depth in spades, and that's ultimately going to force veteran backstop Austin Barnes out of the picture. Russell Martin seems to have a better rapport with the pitching staff, and rookie sensation Will Smith has put up a 137 OPS+ in 158 plate appearances. Barnes might have plenty of defensive upside, but it isn't enough to justify using a roster spot on him over the other options the Dodgers have.
