3 Players Who Won't Make the Yankees Postseason Roster
By Parker White
With a few weeks left in the regular season, there's no telling how the rosters can change around the majors. Yet, at the start of the postseason, every squad lucky enough to play October baseball must make a choice, and narrow their roster down to 25. The New York Yankees rash of injuries don't make things easy, but unfortunately they're left with some tough decisions heading into the playoffs.
3. LHP Nestor Cortes Jr.
Southpaw Nestor Cortes Jr. has been up and down with the big league roster, and because he can go multiple innings from the left side, there was a chance he might make the playoff roster as a long man. However, he owns a 5.23 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 29 appearances. That doesn't seem playoff worthy, right?
2. RHP Luis Cessa
Luis Cessa is already considered a long shot, but he's actually been productive as a long man out of the bullpen, posting a 3.81 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over 38 appearances. However, with the Yankees already possessing a loaded bullpen with postseason experience, Cessa will likely be left off.
1. OF Clint Frazier
In limited time, Clint Frazier has shown plenty of power and offensive productivity that warrants a spot on the postseason roster, even if he's just a bat off the bench. However, his problems defensively and lack of versatility will likely keep him off, even though fellow outfielders Aaron Hicks and Mike Tauchman are out with injury. Tyler Wade, who has positional flexibility, will likely take Frazier's spot, even though he's less of a threat in the box.
