The Dallas Cowboys have been trapped in a brutal contract negotiation with quarterback Dak Prescott for months now, and when they're able to resign him, it won't be cheap. Prescott is expected to sign the franchise tag agreement soon, and there are plenty of reasons why Prescott deserves every penny he'll get from his new deal.

3. He's Literally the Franchise

Prescott is the Cowboys' guy for the long term, and they need to be paying him whatever he wants to keep him there. It would be a nightmare for the team to go back to the drawing board looking for a franchise quarterback. They've built the entire team up around him, and they'll have a legitimate chance to contend for a Super Bowl with him at the helm going forward, even if it limits how they build a team around him.

2. Fitting the Market

As the salary cap has increased dramatically over the past several years, so have the salaries of quarterbacks across the league. L.A. Rams quarterback Jared Goff is not on the same level as Prescott, and he just signed a massive contract with $110 million guaranteed. Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz signed a similar deal, so Prescott's expectations are totally reasonable.

1. An Impressive 2019 Season

Prescott continues to impress year after year, and 2019 was his best season to date. He was No. 2 in the NFL for passing yards last season and No. 4 in passing touchdowns. The longer he is in the league, the stronger Prescott gets, and he has a tremendous ceiling for seasons to come. His expensive extension will be worth it as he continues to develop.
