3 Reasons Patrick Mahomes Will Be Better Than Tom Brady
By Thomas Carannante
The collective hypertension in the New England region just SKYROCKETED because nobody can even fathom to believe there's a quarterback out there who will surpass the great Tom Brady. After all, who can beat six Super Bowls, four Super Bowl MVPs, three MVPs and three All-Pro selections?
Patrick Mahomes. That's who can.
Don't believe me? Here are THREE -- count 'em -- reasons why it's a very plausible possibility.
3. Mahomes Doesn't Need a Top Defense to Succeed
By no means are we saying Brady needs an exceptional defense to succeed, but the fact of the matter is that he's played under the greatest defensive mind in NFL history, so he's had that by his side en route to six Super Bowls. Mahomes? He's already been to an AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl in his first two seasons with defenses that ranked second-to-last in yards allowed and 24th in points allowed (back in 2018), as well as 16th in yards allowed and seventh in points allowed (this past season). The Chiefs defense reached that latter stat due to the high-profile acquisitions of Frank Clark and Tyrann Mathieu. Before that, they were pretty much a turnstile, and even showed heavy flaws this postseason by allowing a total of 75 points in three games.
2. Mahomes' Postseason Poise is Already Largely Unmatched
What contemporary QBs have him beat here besides Brady? Eli Manning a decade ago? He's retired, so it's not even an argument. Maybe Russell Wilson? Definitely not Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees or Philip Rivers, that's for sure. Mahomes is only 24 and he already has four double-digit-point playoff comebacks to his name -- three this postseason and one last postseason (when the Chiefs lost to Brady and the Pats in the AFC title game). Who else has spurred such comebacks that many times? Brady (who obviously has more). That's it.
1. Mahomes is Already the Youngest MVP and Super Bowl MVP Ever
He's been starting in the NFL for TWO SEASONS and already has these accolades. What makes anyone think this isn't just the beginning? As long as the Chiefs front office doesn't screw this up, Kansas City should continue to field formidable rosters and terrorize the AFC. If that's the case, expect Mahomes to keep putting up MVP-like numbers for the next decade or so.
