3 Reasons Seahawks Are Truly Primed for a Super Bowl Run
By Andy Loughmiller
The Seattle Seahawks' Monday Night Football victory over the Minnesota Vikings has propelled them into first place in the NFC West and in position for the No. 2 seed and a first round bye in the NFL playoffs. The team has played exceptionally of late, winning five straight games. With that in mind, here are three reasons why the Seahawks are primed for a Super Bowl run this season.
3. Experienced Coach and Quarterback
It's rare to have a head coach and a quarterback who both have experience playing in big games and making deep runs into the postseason. Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson are seasoned veterans in their respective roles at this point in their careers, so they will not be rattled when they once again find themselves playing in a meaningful contest in January. The only other team in the NFC playoff picture who can say the same are the New Orleans Saints.
2. Rushing Offense
Aside from his fumbling issues, Chris Carson has been tremendous in 2019. He currently boasts the eighth most rushing yards in the league after 12 games. Change-of-pace back Rashaad Penny has also started to come on strong of late, averaging 101.5 rushing yards per game in his last two outings. Running the ball becomes increasingly important as the temperature begins to drop late in the year, and Seattle has consistently proven that they can move the ball on the ground. Additionally, their quarterback can also do some damage in the running game, making them a difficult team to gameplan for.
1. Proven Ability to Win Close Games
The Seahawks have played in several closely contested games this season. 10 of their 12 games thus far have been decided by one score or less, and they have emerged victorious in nine of them. Seattle's grit has been tested numerous times, and they have managed to come out on top at a remarkably high rate. So, when the playoffs roll around and they're tasked with some difficult matchups, this is a team that won't be folding under pressure.
