3 Reasons We Need to See a Blues-Bruins Stanley Cup
By Adam Godfrey
The Boston Bruins have already punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals after their sweep of the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Bruins are yet to find out who they will be playing, however, with the Western Conference Finals still yet to be decided between the San Jose Sharks and the St. Louis Blues. There are convincing cases for each team taking their WCF series home, but here is why we need to see the Blues advance to face the Bruins.
3. Two Deepest Teams in the NHL
The Blues and the Bruins have proven that they are the two deepest teams who qualified for the playoffs. Besides each team having six players who have more than 10 points in these playoffs, they have consistent production behind their big guns, which would make for an interesting and high-paced Stanley Cup Finals.
2. Goaltending Matchup
For the Bruins, Tuukka Rask has been hands down the best player on the ice throughout the playoffs, stepping up huge in crunch time, along with making the simple and difficult saves consistently. Jordan Binnington has done the same for the Blues, most recently giving the Sharks issues, especially in San Jose. This goaltending matchup would arguably be a battle of the top two goalies in all of the playoffs, and would make for a very entertaining Stanley Cup Final.
1. History
In 1970 Bobby Orr scored one of, if not the, most iconic goals in NHL history to clinch the Stanley Cup for Boston. Against, you guessed it, St. Louis. That year was also the last time the Blues were in the Stanley Cup Finals. Rematches are always better when they have an extended history behind them, and the Blues have long awaited the chance to get their vengeance and capture their first cup in franchise history. With all due respect to the tiring Sharks, this would be a must-watch for any NHL fan.
