3 Sneaky Free Agent Moves Eagles Can Still Make Before 2019 Season
By Michael Luciano
Even with several star players they have to pay and keep happy, the Philadelphia Eagles have managed to put together a championship squad while still having a good chunk of cap space left over. Even with an iron-clad starting lineup, GM Howie Roseman, always looking to make little moves here and there, should at least consider bringing these three free agents to Philly.
3. CB Orlando Scandrick
After spending his first nine years in Dallas, Scandrick shuffled in and out of the Kansas City Chiefs' starting lineup. While the Eagles did have a solid draft, they didn't address their porous secondary that is still poised to start Jalen Mills again. He's not what he was, but he's the best free agent corner still out there.
2. WR Jermaine Kearse
After starring for five years in Seattle, Kearse recorded a career-high in yards during his first season as a Jet before falling out of favor with then-OC Jeremy Bates. While the addition of DeSean Jackson and the selection of JJ Arcega-Whiteside has left the wide receiver room crowded in Philly, a Doug Pederson offense can never have enough slot receivers.
1. LB Gerald Hodges
Hodges had initially retired, but eventually announced his intention to play in the 2019 NFL season, still teamless. A local kid who grew up in South Jersey and went to school at Penn State, Hodges covers a lot of ground in coverage and has the ability to play both inside and outside, with experience in 3-4 and 4-3 schemes. With Jordan Hicks in Arizona, Hodges is the most natural fit for the Eagles' defense still left on the market.
