3 Sneaky Free Agent Moves Seahawks Can Still Make Before 2019 Season
By Zack Jiang
The Seattle Seahawks are preparing for another playoff run after locking down Russell Wilson to a massive contract during the offseason. While OTAs have already begun and most of the roster is filled, there are still some small improvements that could be made. Here are three lowkey moves the Seahawks can still make to improve their roster.
1. Sign Muhammad Wilkerson
The Seahawks recently bolstered their defensive line depth by signing Ziggy Ansah. However, Ansah's health could limit his playing time, as he has been hindered by a shoulder injury he suffered last season. First-round pick LJ Collier might not be up to speed right away, so signing a veteran like Muhammad Wilkerson to provide depth and insurance for the defensive line is a no-brainer. Wilkerson is still only 29 years old and is a safe option for a one-year-prove-it deal.
2. Sign Sam Bradford
Sam Bradford's days as a starting quarterback are over, but that doesn't mean he can't be a safety net. Behind Wilson the Seahawks have Paxton Lynch and undrafted rookie Taryn Christion. If Russell goes down, the Seahawks will be doomed. While Bradford isn't a great quarterback, his experience and skills make him clear upgrade over the current backups.
3. Sign Michael Crabtree
With Doug Baldwin gone, the Seahawks will likely need to rely on their second-round receiver DK Metcalf as a main option. Seattle needs to bolster the weapons for their star QB, as their current receiver depth is very thin. Michael Crabtree was a perfect depth signing for Baltimore. He had a solid season with the Ravens last year with 607 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The veteran can be a mentor for the young receivers and would give Wilson another option if needed.
