3 Teams Stupid Enough to Trade for Cam Newton if Panthers Make Him Available

With the Carolina Panthers 4-0 under quarterback Kyle Allen, the franchise's braintrust has a colossal decision to make within the next two weeks, as Cam Newton (foot) is scheduled to return to practice following the team's Week 7 bye.

Should the Panthers opt to move forward with Allen as their quarterback, Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman understands that Newton would have roughly 10 teams around the NFL interested in acquiring him.

Folks, that report is utterly shocking, and we don't doubt that Carolina will ask for a steep package in return for the former MVP, especially if they can shed his salary.

Let's examine a few teams that are dumb (and desperate) enough to actually inquire about acquiring the erratic, oft-injured 30-year-old gunslinger.

3. Washington Redskins

You clearly haven't been paying attention to the reign of Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen in the Redskins organization to swiftly dismiss the notion that the two execs aren't that stupid to trade for an aging QB. We even hear your rebuttal that there was a distinct reason they drafted Dwayne Haskins in the first round this past April. However, the woeful Case Keenum continues to get the nod over the former Buckeye, and Snyder and Allen setting the franchise a few years back would simply be par for the course. They've firmly established Washington as the worst run organization in the NFL and have done nothing over the years to suggest that won't continue.

2. Oakland Raiders

The relationship between Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and quarterback Derek Carr has improved throughout the first six weeks of the 2019 season, but it still isn't where it should be. Oakland has shocked the world with their current 3-2 record, but not because of the quarterback play of Carr. A strong run game led by rookie tailback Josh Jacobs coupled with elite defensive play has spearheaded the team's surprising start. Let's not forget that the Raiders willingly shipped future assets to the Steelers this offseason in exchange for embattled (now free agent) wideout Antonio Brown. What evidence is there to suggest that Oakland's front office wouldn't pull the trigger to sign Newton to "take them to the next level?" There is none.

1. Tennessee Titans

We wanted to include the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their current predicament with turnover-happy Jameis Winston, but we sincerely doubt that the Panthers would offload Newton to a division rival. That leaves the Tennessee Titans and their benching of Marcus Mariota this past weekend in favor of Ryan Tannehill. It goes without saying that neither QB should inspire the fan base in Nashville and their cries could persuade the franchise to pursue Newton. After all, that defense is elite and the offense boasts talent like Derrick Henry, Corey Davis, AJ Brown, and Delanie Walker. The Titans hands are tied, and they could make the mistake of jumping the gun and coughing up future assets for Newton, should he become available.
