3 Teams That Need to Take a Chance on Former Clemson QB Kelly Bryant
Somehow former Missouri and Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant remains an unsigned free agent after never hearing his name called in the 2020 NFL Draft. While he waits for the phone to ring, we're going to go ahead and take a look at three teams who need to step up and give the former standout signal caller his first professional chance.
3. Seattle Seahawks
The QB situation in Seattle is set for the future, with Russell Wilson owning this offense for years to come. However, the depth behind him isn't looking too promising. As things stand, Russell and Anthony Gordon are the only QBs on the roster. Gordon, a record-breaking QB out of Washington State, signed as a UDFA last month. With the need for more bodies in the QB room, Seattle could bring in Bryant and give him the chance to compete with Gordon to battle for that backup spot. Going into camp with only two quarterbacks in the mix simply can't happen.
2. Chicago Bears
The Bears made one of the biggest splashes of the offseason, trading for Jacksonville Jaguars signal caller Nick Foles. With the Super Bowl-winning QB set to (likely) take over the offense, Trubisky will be making his way to the bench. His future with the team is clear as mud, and his fifth-year option has already been declined. While Tyler Bray is the No. 3 QB on the depth chart, his status with the team is also unclear. Why not take a low risk by signing Bryant and let him show his stuff during camp? Best-case scenario, he earns his stripes and works his way on the team. Worst case, he's sent packing before the season starts.
1. Saints
The Saints used a late-round pick on QB Tommy Stevens, but the kid threw for 11 touchdowns at Mississippi State last season. Is he really going to push Jameis Winston for the No. 2 job? It doesn't seem that way. When Bryant was at the top of his game, he was a feared QB in the SEC, and his dual-threat abilities are tough to match. Who better to show him the ropes early on in his career than Drew Brees? Sean Payton and Co. need to get this done.
