3 Teams That Should Buy Low on a Starlin Castro Trade
By Max Scoli
Rumors have been circulating that suggest Miami Marlins second baseman Starlin Castro is generating significant trade interest, with several teams reaching out to gauge his availability. That being said, here is a list of a few MLB teams that could certainly use the services of the four-time All-Star:
1. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers are currently sitting pretty atop the NL West standings, up 13.5 games on the Arizona Diamondbacks. With this much breathing room, LA can afford to gamble on fitting Castro into the offense part-time. Enrique Hernandez also hasn't been that productive, batting .218 the year.
2. Oakland Athletics
After another step back in the first half, it's clear Jurickson Profar is not the answer at second base for the Oakland A's. The Curaçaoan baseball player is only hitting .212 compared to Castro's .245 BA, and holds a -0.5 WAR. The Athletics are only 1.5 games out of a Wild Card spot, and it seems clear that the organization must pull off some sort of transaction to get them over the hump. Either promote Jorge Mateo or deal for Castro.
3. Texas Rangers
Statistically speaking, the Texas Rangers have the biggest need for production at the second base position. The team's current starter, Rougned Odor, is sporting a dreadful .193 batting average to go along with 96 strikeouts on the season. At this point, Castro seems like just as good an option as any for this ball club.
