3 Top-6 Wingers Oilers Should Try and Trade for to Pair with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
By Charles Nason
The top line for the Edmonton Oilers is perfectly set with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl both looking for back-to-back 100 point seasons. Their second line, however, manned by eight-year veteran Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. With plenty of room for improvement on both sides of Nugent-Hopkins, the Oilers may need to make a trade for a top-six winger. Here are three options Edmonton should consider to place next to the 26 year-old.
3. Chris Kreider, New York Rangers
New York Rangers winger Chris Kreider is coming off one of his most productive seasons to date. With the ability to put up anywhere from 40-50 points a season, Kreider could be a welcomed addition to the Oilers lineup. Although the 28 year-old might not be a long-term solution for Edmonton's second line, he could add the scoring touch and experience the Oilers need next to Nugent-Hopkins.
2. Jason Zucker, Minnesota Wild
The Wild may not be willing to part ways with 27-year-old winger Jason Zucker, but if the Oilers can put together a solid package of players and draft picks they could land him. Although Zucker doesn't light up the stat sheet every night, he could add the type of grit and grinder mentality that the Oilers need on their second line. Zucker and Nugent-Hopkins would be a solid pairing if the Oilers are willing to part ways with some key assets.
1. James Neal, Calgary Flames
31-year-old Flames forward James Neal has the exact level of experience that the Oilers are lacking. The 2018-2019 NHL campaign was a rough one for Neal, but a new team could get the winger back to his high-scoring ways. It probably wouldn't take too much for the Oilers to land Neal and he would probably mesh well on the second line with RNH. If they can deal for the 11-year vet, the Oilers would have an excellent top two lines.
