3 Undrafted Rookies That Could Actually Make the Steelers
By Michael Luciano
Even without Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell in town, the Pittsburgh Steelers and their fans should be feeling good about their outlook for 2019 after a strong draft class that included studs like Michigan's Devin Bush and Michigan State's Justin Layne. Pittsburgh managed to attract a good crop of undrafted free agents at positions of need too. These three players have the talent to show the Steelers that they're worth keeping.
3. West Virginia DB Dravon Askew-Henry
A four-year starter at West Virginia as a deep safety, Askew-Henry's stock took a nosedive after not one, but two serious season-ending knee injuries. If he's back to 100 percent, Pittsburgh would have gotten an absolute steal. Big, fast, and a very aggressive tackler, Askew-Henry was built to play for the Steelers.
2. UCF K Matthew Wright
Chris Boswell missed some big kicks in some big games over the last few years, and he could be on his way out of Pittsburgh. A three-time All-Conference performer, Wright made 77 percent of his field goals over his four years as UCF's kicker, including drilling 85.7 percent last year. If Wright impresses during his tryout, this could be the end of Boswell's time as a Steeler given his high price tag.
1. LSU OG Garrett Brumfield
If you were to draw up an offensive lineman's body on a board it would look like Garrett Brumfield. Big, strong, and already possessing great hand usage, Brumfield's issues came from his struggles against speed inside -- Quinnen Williams ate him alive -- and a general lack of technical refinement. If new OL coach Shaun Sarrett can unlock the best in Brumfield, he could make it as a backup for a long time in this league.
