3 Unfavorable Matchups for the Chiefs in AFC Championship Game vs Titans
Two teams enter, but only one will move on to face the winner of the 49ers-Packers showdown in the 2020 Super Bowl. The Titans and Chiefs will meet in the AFC Championship Game, with Kansas City as major favorites to move on.
However, you'd be foolish to write off the Titans in this clash. Just ask the Ravens and Patriots about that. With that being said, here are three advantages Tennessee has over KC entering Sunday's affair.
3. Derrick Henry Against KC's Front Seven
If we've learned anything this postseason, it's that Derrick Henry is one of the best running backs in the game. Seriously, No. 22 has been an absolute force, making easy work of the both the Patriots and Ravens. In the past two weeks, he's rushed for 377 yards, while averaging 5.9 hashes per carry. Those are unreal numbers, especially considering he was going up against Baltimore and New England. The Chiefs had the 26th-ranked rushing defense this past season, so Steve Spagnuolo better adjust.
2. Titans Secondary Against Chiefs WRs
Perhaps what's been most special about Tennessee's consecutive road upsets in the postseason has been just how well the defense has performed. Against New England, they held Tom Brady and Co. to 13 points. Against Baltimore? Lamar Jackson had a nightmare day, and the Ravens were held to 12 points. That's no easy task whatsoever, and they were able to silence both team's pass catchers with relative ease. While the Chiefs have a stacked group, led by Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, and possess much better talent in that department than the Titans have seen thus far, but Tennessee has been on a roll over the last three weeks and we all know hot playoff teams perform much differently.
1. Andy Reid vs Mike Vrabel
Again, no one thought the Titans would be here. Seriously. To go on the road and beat both the Pats and Ravens seemed impossible. Yet, Vrabel's team has been sensational and are playing like one of the best in the NFL. This is bad news for the Chiefs. Quite literally all the pressure is on them. Should Tennessee win, it'd mark back-to-back home losses in the AFC Championship Game for Andy Reid and KC. Vrabel's group has swag to them, while Reid doesn't have the best track record in the postseason and often times has been labeled as a choke. Will that change this year?
