3 Veteran Chiefs Players Who Could Be Cut After the NFL Draft

The Kansas City Chiefs have struck gold in the NFL Draft in recent years, landing franchise cornerstones like Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones, and Tyreek Hill, among others, since 2016.

In 2020, GM Brett Veach has five picks to work with, including the No. 32 overall selection, and it would be smart to assume that he'll hit on most of them. As always, that might force the Chiefs to part ways with some veterans that don't necessarily boast roster security.

Here are three players that could be on the chopping block following this month's draft.

3. DE Tanoh Kpassagnon

The Chiefs seem poised to bolster their defensive line in the draft, and that could result in Kpassagnon, who started just eight games last season, being jettisoned. The former second-round pick is already near the bottom of the pecking order of KC's pass rushers. We don't doubt that he'll find work elsewhere, but the way we see it, Kpassagnon just hold much of a future in Steve Spagnuolo's defense.

2. S Daniel Sorensen

It's quite impressive that Sorensen has been employed by the Chiefs for as long as he has. In six seasons with the team, the 30-year-old safety has started 21 of a possible 79 games. Sorenon played just 50% of the defensive snaps in 2019, and if KC bolsters its secondary depth, the BYU product could be shown the door. The Chiefs would save close to $4 million doing just that.

1. LB Damien Wilson

Wilson was part of one of the worst linebacking corps in the NFL last season, and that should see the Chiefs considering their options with the five-year pro. In 2019, Wilson posted just 52 solo tackles despite starting 16 games, and he was a disaster in pass coverage. Kansas City would save over $4 million by cutting the 26-year-old. Looking for LB help in the draft would just make sense for the Chiefs.
