3 Worst Coaching Hires Giants Could Possibly Make
By Jerry Trotta
The New York Giants wasted no time addressing the future of their organization when they announced the firing of head coach Pat Shurmur, who took over prior to 2018.
The franchise has subsequently set up a slew of interviews for potential candidates, and it goes without saying that some of the hot commodities linked to the vacancy would prove to be a disaster if appointed.
Let's highlight a few of those individuals, shall we?
3. Kris Richard
The Giants reportedly plan on bringing Richard in for an interview, and we have absolutely zero idea why. We understand he enjoyed success with Seattle, but what defensive backs coach wouldn't get the most out of the likes of Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, and Earl Thomas? He subsequently moved to Dallas and the Cowboys' secondary showed no improvement whatsoever. Have you taken a look at the Giants' defensive personnel recently? It's probably one of, if not the worst, bunch in the NFL -- miles behind that of Dallas'. Do we really have to continue about what would make this pairing a calamity?
2. Robert Saleh
Saleh's inclusion here is largely similar to Richard's, even though his resume his far more impressive. Why would the Giants, who are bordering on boasting an elite offense, hire a defensive-minded coach who has no previous head coaching experience? Keep in mind that Pete Carroll understudy's rarely succeed as HC's in the NFL and Saleh is finally producing results (he took the job in 2017) now that the 49ers flaunt a star-studded roster on defense.
1. Jason Garrett
Giants fans probably thought they were being punk'd when Darryl Slater of NJ.com asserted that the organization should pursue Garrett. Should Slater's wishes come to fruition, it would be nothing short of a nightmare for a Giants team in a rebuild, whether ownership would like to admit it or not. Garrett has proven that he can't take an above-average to elite roster to a Super Bowl. To think of what he could (or wouldn't) do with the Giants' mundane personnel is nauseating.
