The New York Yankees dealt with a ton of injuries this year, putting a strain on their depth. Unfortunately, teams have to deal with such issues every year, so while next year probably won't be as bad, they'll need to cover any roster holes that may arise from within.

So here are three Yankee prospects who will have a big role with the team in 2020.

3. RHP Clarke Schmidt

New York selected right-hander Clarke Schmidt in the first round back in 2017, even though he had recently underwent Tommy John surgery. He ended up playing at three different levels in 2019, including Double-A, and in 19 appearances (18 starts) he posted a 3.47 ERA and had 102 strikeouts over 90.2 innings. It's unlikely that Schmidt will compete for a rotation spot at any point next year, but with his electric fastball that generates a lot of grounders, he could be a valuable piece in the bullpen at some point in 2020.

2. RHP Michael King

Michael King got a taste of the big leagues at the end of 2019, but if his elbow is healthy and he can go full bore when Spring Training rolls around, he could be a candidate to make the team out of camp as a back-of-the-rotation starter. King doesn't wow you with velocity, but he has tremendous command. The Yankees have high hopes for King, so he might end up being more than a fourth or fifth starter when it's all said and done.

1. RHP Deivi Garcia

At 20 years old, right-hander Deivi Garcia is already at Triple-A and is considered one of the best pitchers in the minor leagues. He took his licks when he got to Triple-A (5.40 ERA over 40 innings), but his mid-90's fastball and devastating curveball will be too much for the Yankees to overlook when next year arrives. Garcia will likely start the season at Triple-A, but at some point in 2020, he'll be a fixture in the Yankee rotation, especially if they have any injuries.
