4 AL All-Stars Who Could Be Traded by the Deadline

The 2019 MLB All-Star rosters have been announced, and though every team rightly celebrates its players who are lucky enough to get tapped for the Midsummer Classic, a separate consideration sometimes must be had: the opportunity to sell high on guys who might be outperforming expectations at the moment.

With that in mind, these four American League All-Stars may not be donning their current uniforms for too much longer now that the trade deadline is approaching at the end of July.

4. RHP Shane Greene, Detroit Tigers

Shane Greene has been a mediocre pitcher over the years, but he's suddenly one of the top closers in the game a member of the Detroit Tigers this season, owning a 0.87 ERA with 22 saves. Plenty of contenders are in desperate need of bullpen help, especially in the ninth inning, and with the Tigers not going anywhere this year, it makes too much sense to ship Greene for future assets.

3. 2B/OF Whit Merrifield, Kansas City Royals

Whit Merrifield is one of the faces of the Kansas City Royals and he provides a lot of value because of his defensive versatility. However, the Royals are in the midst of a rebuild, and by the time they get good, will an aging Merrifield be the same player? Kansas City should take advantage of his value and team-friendly deal on the market soon before his production has a chance to drop.

2. LHP Brad Hand, Cleveland Indians

Brad Hand was dealt to the Cleveland Indians last year from the San Diego Padres, and while he's still getting the job done and leads the league in saves (23), the Tribe is on the verge of needing to tear it down and retool for the future. The first to go should be Hand, who still has club control and could bring back a nice haul.

1. RHP Marcus Stroman, Toronto Blue Jays

The starting pitching market ahead of the deadline isn't as deep as the reliever pool, and at his point, Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman is one of the top options out there. In 18 starts he owns a 3.18 ERA and has proven to be a big-game pitcher, making it almost a guarantee he'll be moved before July 31.
