4 Best Destinations for Anthony Davis Now That He Still Wants a Trade From Pelicans
By Scott Rogust
New Orleans Pelicans general manager David Griffin finally met with Anthony Davis in Los Angeles on Wednesday in order to sway the superstar into staying with the team.
Despite the supposed positive meeting, Davis still remains steadfast in his desire to be traded to another team.
So that leaves the question, which teams have a feasible shot at landing "The Unibrow?" Here are four teams that can make Davis happy AND offer a strong return for New Orleans.
4. Houston Rockets
Okay, let's get crazy here. Reports coming out of Houston suggest that the Rockets are open to trading all of their players and future draft picks, with James Harden being the lone exception. What if the Rockets can send Chris Paul, Clint Capela, and future picks to New Orleans for Davis to help get Harden over the second-round hump in the Western Conference? That could be a scary duo down in H-Town, although it remains to be seen if a Big Easy reunion for CP3 and his massive contract is something the Pels desire. Perhaps some future draft picks could ease those concerns.
3. New York Knicks
In terms of draft capital, the New York Knicks have the richest among NBA teams. They have the third-overall pick in this year's draft, and two first round picks in the 2021 and 2023 picks respectively from the Dallas Mavericks. If the Knicks were to land Kevin Durant and/or Kyrie Irving in free agency, Davis would have the chance to play on a serious contender next season.
2. Boston Celtics
Other than the Lakers, the Boston Celtics have been one of the teams to openly pursue Davis. Despite Davis' father talking negatively about the organization, his son has little sway, considering he's a free agent after next season. Boston can offer young stars Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and possibly Marcus Smart to New Orleans. If the Celtics can find a way to retain Irving, they'll have themselves a dynamic duo that can do some damage in the Eastern Conference.
1. Los Angeles Lakers
It's no secret that LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers want to bring in Anthony Davis. Even Davis wants to move to Hollywood. The thing is, Pelicans ownership has no desire to give the Lakers another star. The Lakers have a plethora of young stars that can help the Pelicans build around impending first-overall pick Zion Williamson. Oh, and Los Angeles' fourth overall pick could help sweeten the deal.
