4 Best Destinations for Chris Paul if the Rockets Can Find a Trade Partner
By Zack Jiang
After blowing one of their best chances at a title, the Rockets are exploring all options for a roster shakeup. General Manager Daryl Morey is taking calls on all his players including Chris Paul, whose value has severely diminished as he continues to be hampered by injuries and is tied to a terrible contract. However, these four teams could be willing to take a chance on CP3.
4. Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic are coming off their first playoff appearance in seven years. They have a solid core going forward with Aaron Gordon, Jonathan Isaac, and Mo Bamba. However, they still are in need of a ball handler to run the offense. Chris Paul can fill that void. He could also play alongside Markelle Fultz and be a mentor to the young guard. The Rockets would likely need to send future assets to complete the deal, but could get back some solid role players to compete.
3. Los Angeles Lakers
If the Lakers strike out on all the free agents, they can't simply roll back the same roster. LeBron James is still one of the best players in the world, but even he showed signs of slowing down last year with his injury. In order to capitalize on LeBron's remaining years, the Lakers may have to pull the trigger on a Chris Paul trade.
2. Indiana Pacers
The Pacers were a contending team in the East before Oladipo got hurt. They'll enter the offseason with some cap space and with their core players locked up. Indiana desperately needs more offensive firepower and has lacked a good point guard for some time. If they are unable to find quality guys in free agency, rolling the dice on Paul might not be a bad idea.
1. Milwaukee Bucks
A 60-win season and an MVP-like campaign from Giannis all went down the drain after the Bucks lost to the Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals. They'll now head to the offseason with a variety of decisions as three of their starters will be free agents. Outside of Giannis, no players proved that they can truly be relied upon. Paul could fill that void and possibly be the facilitator that unlocks another level for Giannis. Instead of overpaying a player like Khris Middleton, it might be better to overpay for a proven player like Paul. The only thing here is that the Bucks would probably have to find a taker for Eric Bledsoe and his contract.
