4 College Football Teams That Should Chase Stanford Grad Transfer QB K.J. Costello

K.J. Costello dealt with injuries this season after a successful 2018 campaign with the Stanford Cardinal. The quarterback has reportedly entered his name into the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. He will be one of the more coveted quarterbacks available this spring, and these top programs should give him a recruiting call this offseason.

4. Michigan

The Michigan Wolverines need a new quarterback in 2020 and Costello would be a great replacement for the outgoing Shea Patterson, who was a transfer himself. Costello threw for 3,540 yards in 2018 with a 65.1 completion percentage. That is better than any season of Patterson, and Jim Harbaugh could channel his Stanford past to jumpstart his current program.

3. Florida State

Florida State scuffled to a 6-6 record with James Blackman and Alex Hornibrook both getting starts under center. New head coach Mike Norvell wants a quick start and recruiting Costello would give the coach an experienced quarterback right away. The team has lost at least six games in each of the past three seasons and is looking to return back to the upper echelon of the sport. That turnaround starts under center.

2. Georgia

This scenario depends on whether Jake Fromm decides to go pro or not. If he does, that leaves a spot for the taking, and Georgia could avoid any drop-off by getting Costello on the team. They would get a proven starter who has played in big games before, and has experience playing in a Power Five conference. The alternative is Stetson Bennett, who is nowhere near Costello in stature or experience.

1. LSU

LSU has reached new heights after acquiring former graduate transfer Joe Burrow. He is now set to be the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. LSU has a top 2020 recruiting class and will want to remain in playoff contention next season. Bringing in Costello avoids a transition phase and he would show up as a veteran just like Burrow did when he arrived.
