4 Destinations for Josh Gordon if He Clears Waivers Following Release From Patriots
By Andy Loughmiller
Josh Gordon's time in New England has come to an end now that he has been placed on IR. It's already been suggested that when and if Gordon is medically cleared, he will be released from the Pats and free to sign with another NFL team. With that in mind, here are four teams that would benefit from acquiring the veteran pass catcher midway through the season.
4. Seattle Seahawks
Russell Wilson is off to a tremendous start thus far in 2019. He's a popular pick for this year's MVP. Tyler Lockett and rookie DK Metcalf have been huge in the receiving game, but Seattle doesn't have many experienced pass catchers. Adding Gordon to the roster would not only add a veteran presence, but it would also allow Metcalf to slide into a less significant role and draw easier one-on-one matchups.
3. Buffalo Bills
The Bills are now 5-1 and have the second-best record in the AFC. They've managed to accomplish this without any elite offensive weapons. Josh Allen isn't known for his accuracy, so adding a big receiver like Gordon with a huge catch radius to Buffalo's receiving corps would provide the second-year quarterback with some room for error.
2. New Orleans Saints
Teddy Bridgewater has managed to keep the ship from sinking in Drew Brees's absence. Brees should be returning to action soon, and he would certainly appreciate having an established veteran like Josh Gordon to welcome him back. Michael Thomas is a certified star, but other than him, the Saints current receiving corps is a mixture of gadget players and youth. Remember they signed Dez Bryant late last year?
1. Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers put on a show in Week 7 with his six total touchdowns, and he did it with a bunch of receivers that you've probably never heard of. That said, it would be unfair to expect Rodgers to do that on a week-to-week basis. Davante Adams should be back from injury sooner than later, but signing Gordon would ensure that one of the two big bodied receivers is in single coverage in the red zone.
