4 Early Favorites for LeSean McCoy Emerge and They Make Very Little Sense
By Scott Rogust
NFL cut day took place on Saturday, and it started off with a bang, as the Buffalo Bills cut ties with former franchise running back LeSean McCoy. With mouths like Devin Singletary, TJ Yeldon, and Frank Gore to feed, Buffalo opted to cut ties with McCoy's hefty price tag.
This news left a huge question burning throughout NFL fans' minds: where on Earth will "Shady" play?
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, four teams have emerged as the most interested in the former Bills back. Those teams include the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Chargers, and New England Patriots.
The Chiefs, Eagles, and Patriots arguably have the most crowded backfields in the entire league, and they all want to add another running back? Would McCoy be a luxury to those teams? Of course. But that would just be an embarrassment of riches.
Philly just cut two sterling RBs earlier on Saturday! That reunion makes next to no sense.
Out of the four, the Chargers do make the most sense, given the uncertainty surrounding Melvin Gordon. In fact, reports on Saturday indicated that the Chargers have given their 2015 first-round selection permission to speak to other teams regarding a potential trade.
If the Gordon era is indeed over, McCoy would be a quality replacement, complementing Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson.
With LeSean McCoy unlikely to sign until after Week 1, there will be an increase in potential suitors in the next week.
