The construction of Allegiant Stadium, the new home of the Las Vegas Raiders, has been continuing amid the coronavirus pandemic. Such a project obviously requires a significant number of laborers, and that has reportedly led to an increasing nymber unfortunately testing positive for COVID-19.

Per KLAS-TV in Las Vegas, four additional construction workers have contracted the virus. As of Tuesday evening, that brings the total number of positive diagnoses from the stadium site to seven.

Workers on site weren't required to wear protective masks until the week of April 20. Considering the understood severity of the disease and how easily it spreads, that almost seems impossible to fathom.

According a statement released by Mortenson-McCarthy, the joint venture overseeing the operation, workers have been following social distancing guidelines. However, the statement also noted that a total of 4,000 contributors have been on site at Allegiant Stadium since the coronavirus pandemic began.

"All cases were limited in contact with others on site pursuant to strict social distancing protocols in place. We continue to collaborate with local labor groups and take immediate precautions to minimize the risk of coronavirus transmission," read a portion of the statement.

The sense of urgency to finish the project makes sense in one respect, but it sounds like basic precautions could have been put in place much sooner than they were. The summer has been deemed a realistic timetable for the stadium's completion, but if the virus continues to pose danger to those at the site, timetables may have to be adjusted.
