4 NBA Teams Who Should Sign Joe Johnson
By Daniel Marcillo
Joe Johnson is 38 years old, but is still slicing up defenses like when he was 28. After a championship in the BIG 3, the NBA has certainly taken notice of what he has accomplished. Here are the teams who would best be suited for the veteran off the bench.
4. Phoenix Suns
The Phoenix Suns' long rebuilding process is almost complete and bringing Johnson on a veteran minimum contract could give the team scoring off the bench and a strong locker room presence. He was a major part of the great Suns teams that featured Amare Stoudemire and Steve Nash. Johnson would be a short term addition who can come with great value to the franchise.
3. Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers have already put together an amazing offseason by bringing in Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Along with signing Patrick Beverley and JaMychal Green to keep their bench together, adding Johnson would be a good fit as well. He can bring his scoring off the bench and will not be forced to play important minutes due to the presence of George and Leonard. Johnson would also spread the floor if he shared the court with the the duo.
2. Los Angeles Lakers
Lebron James got a courtside view of Johnson's ability during the BIG 3 championship and seemed impressed with what Johnson still had left in the tank. James has always had a loyalty towards the veterans in the league and Johnson could give the Lakers an additional rotational option off the bench, more than capable of splashing from 3.
1. Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers already have a full roster, but signing Johnson could be the missing piece they need to make a championship run. Johnson's role with the Sixers would also be a very limited one, but at his age it would fit perfectly. The Sixers core is set but their role players were very underwhelming throughout the season. Philly needs shooters, and that's exactly what Iso Joe would give them.
