4 NFL Quarterbacks Entering 'Prove it' Seasons
By Brendan Azoff
The 2019 NFL season is inching closer and this year will not be without its fair share of storylines. One of those storylines is the group of quarterbacks that are stepping into pivotal campaigns for their careers, during which they must prove that they have what it takes to lead a team.
4. Jameis Winston
After splitting time with Ryan Fitzpatrick last season, Winston has to bounce back in 2019 and show the Bucs that he has what it takes to lead this team into the future. He threw for fewer than 3,000 yard last season, with 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, numbers like that are not good enough to be a franchise QB. 2019 is a make or break year for Jameis.
3. Marcus Mariota
After a phenomenal first two seasons, Mariota's stock has dropped significantly due to a pair of lackluster seasons. Mariota has just 24 touchdown passes the over past two years, a number that won't cut it for an NFL QB. His talent is inevitable, but Mariota must regain his rookie season form and avoid taking big hits so that he can stay healthy in 2019 to prove to the Titans that he is their guy.
2. Carson Wentz
Wentz has been the Eagles franchise QB since he was drafted in 2016, but the only problem is he has not been able to stay on the field. Without Nick Foles to protect the Eagles from another injury-shortened campaign from Wentz, the former second overall pick must show that the contract extension he signed was a smart investment, and that he can continue the form he had when he threw for almost 3,300 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2017.
1. Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott showed that with a target like Amari Cooper his passing ability could become an actual threat to opposing defenses. Yet, if the 25-year-old wants to get the $30 million per year extension that has been rumored for quite some time now, he will have to prove that he could replicate his 3,885 yards, 22 touchdown and 8 interception performance from last season. Only this time, he is going to have to take the Cowboys deeper into the playoffs.
