4 Perfect Trade Destinations for Melvin Gordon After Chargers Consent to Exploring Deal
By Sean Facey
Melvin Gordon's relationship with the Los Angeles Chargers has deteriorated in the blink of an eye. It seems inevitable that the franchise star running back will be traded, all of a sudden, and the only question that remains is where he'll land. These four teams in particular, though, stand out as the ideal landing spots for Gordon.
4. Green Bay Packers
The Packers have lacked consistency in the ground game for quite some time now, and while Aaron Jones is a serviceable starter, they could use a bit of an added punch. Coupling Gordon with Jones and an offense led by Aaron Rodgers would be absurd. They've already got a new offensive gameplan heading into this year, and adding Gordon into the mix would make things even more electric.
3. Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins have depth at running back, but the problem lies in the fact that the talent is too inconsistent. Kenyan Drake has proven to be formidable as a burst of energy, but he's dealing with foot injuries. If the Dolphins were to trade for Gordon, they'd be able to rest Drake more often and strengthen the run game, despite the loss of offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil.
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
To say running back is a position of need for the Buccaneers would be a grotesque understatement. They're starting the year with Peyton Barber atop the depth chart with practically nobody behind him. Adding Gordon could work wonders for an offense that hasn't had a 1,000-yard rusher since Doug Martin back in 2015. Under Bruce Arians, this offense could blossom with a solid running threat.
1. Buffalo Bills
LeSean McCoy won't be with the Bills this year, and the door is now wide open for them to swing a deal for a far younger and more productive back in Gordon. Not only would he be the perfect replacement for McCoy, but he'd be a fantastic aid to young quarterback Josh Allen. With a consistent ground game and a reliable pass catcher out of the backfield, Allen could blossom. Gordon joining the Bills would be a match made in football heaven; he's an improvement on Frank Gore, at this juncture.
