4 Possible Destinations for D'Onta Foreman After Disappointing Stint With Texans
By Michael Luciano
After a prolific college career at Texas that included a 2,000-yard season, former Houston Texans running back D'Onta Foreman disappointed in the NFL, rushing for 327 yards in two years while suffering a catastrophic Achilles injury. In fact, you and me had more rushing yards than Foreman last year, who carried the ball seven times for -1 yard. Unhappy with his work habits and recovery from his injury, Houston cut bait with him on Sunday. Even with his struggles, these four teams should try to bring the massive Foreman back from the dead.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars
Even with Nick Foles in town, the Jacksonville offense will revolve around Leonard Fournette running the football. To prevent giving him 400 carries this year, the Jaguars should look for an upgrade to their backup running back stable, currently led by Alfred Blue and Thomas Rawls. Foreman would be another powerful runner that could grind out yards in relief of Fournette.
3. Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys have plenty of backups that could spell the absent Ezekiel Elliott in a pinch, but no real standouts. Fourth-round pick Tony Pollard is more of a RB/WR hybrid, while Darius Jackson, Mike Weber and Jordan Chunn have yet to distance themselves in camp. In case Elliott continues his holdout, the Cowboys will need to hit the panic button to find a running back, and Foreman could easily answer the call.
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Mike Alstott ain't walking through that door anytime soon in Tampa Bay. Between Ronald Jones, who struggled mightily as a rookie, and Peyton Barber, who is as uninspiring a starter as they come, Tampa still lacks that standout running back to shoulder the load offensively. If the Bucs are truly committed to the committee approach Bruce Arians wants to implement, why not take a flyer on Foreman and see if his powerful style will translate into Arians' offense?
1. Oakland Raiders
The Raiders' running back depth chart features a rookie in Josh Jacobs, a pass-catching back in Jalen Richard, and the seldom-used DeAndre Washington as their three best options on the ground. While Jon Gruden is likely going to give Jacobs the bulk of the carries, it wouldn't hurt to add another strong runner to help take some of the responsibility off of Jacobs' plate. If Gruden wants to keep throwing it back to 1998, Foreman should get a call soon.
