4-Star 2020 DB Joel Williams Commits to Florida Amid Gators' Recruiting Setbacks
By Seth Carlson
Some recent bad recruiting luck at the University of Florida hasn't stopped one 4-star recruit from declaring his intentions to be a Gator.
Joel Williams, a four-star cornerback and athlete who plays high school football at Madison Prep in Baton Rouge, chose the Gators over other SEC rivals including the LSU Tigers and the Tennessee Volunteers.
Williams is considered one of the top all-around talents of the 2020 college football recruiting class. Going to a school like Florida, where NFL defensive backs are churned out in numbers, will only improve his game. He is a big get for the school.
Amidst the controversy of recent commits backtracking from the University of Florida, they still hold a top five recruiting class in the nation according to most major rating services. Even after losing recent signees Chris Steele, Jalon Jones and Diwun Black, it appears as if the Gators have begun their bounceback in strong fashion with the verbal commitment by Williams.
Florida will look to build upon its already strong recruiting class in 2019. Williams adds to the Gators' recent success drawing top talent from Louisiana, a positive sign for the program as they look to stave off competition from other powerhouse SEC programs.
