4 Teams Dumb Enough to Take a Chance on JR Smith

It was inevitable, but a plethora of reports dropped Monday that basically closed the door on JR Smith's career in Cleveland. Barring an unexpected trade, the Cavaliers are planning on waiving the former Sixth Man of the Year.

While most skeptics presumed that 'The Prodigy' was destined to pair up with his buddy LeBron James in La La Land, the Lakers actually don't plan to pursue the 33-year-old veteran.

With that in mind, let's dive into a few franchises that are dumb enough to take a chance on JR's renowned inconsistency and headaches.

4. Milwaukee Bucks

Okay, Milwaukee fans, it's time to declare your confidence (or lack thereof) in reserve guards Wesley Matthews, Sterling Brown, Pat Connaughton, George Hill, and Donte DiVincenzo. We'll help you out: Hill is a point guard, Connaughton shows flashes, but is not a time-honored marksman, DiVincenzo and Brown are handsomely inexperienced, and Wes is significantly past his prime. If that's not an unappealing compilation of predicaments that could lead GM Jon Horst to pursue JR, we don't know what is.

3. Houston Rockets

The Rockets don't have much talent to offer outside of their starting five. Daryl Morey could still be fishing in the market to compliment Russell Westbrook's greatest strength -- his relentless knack at getting to the rim. What better way to do that than add another shooter like JR Swish? Smith will NOT produce close to the production and efficiency of Eric Gordon and PJ Tucker but he would give Houston another viable option from distance who operates best when wide open. That logic could force the ever-aggressive Morey to pull the trigger.

2. Miami Heat

You simply cannot deny the fact that JR Smith's compelling personality was born for South Beach. It's literally a match made in heaven and Eric Spoelstra could absolutely use a marksman (albeit hot and cold) to space the floor for the likes of the newly-acquired Jimmy Butler. Just picture J-But, JR, and Dion Waiters all on the floor at the same time. In all seriousness, the Heat, like the Sixers, lack depth, and Smith will stand as one of the most productive players available once he hits the market.

1. Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers underwent a genuine roster overhaul this summer, parting ways with Jimmy Butler and signing Tobias Harris and Al Horford to expensive contracts. Their starting five is arguably the best in the East but their bench leaves a lot to be desired -- Mike Scott, Zhaire Smith, Matisse Thybulle, and James Ennis III won't scare anyone. This could leave general manager Elton Brand forced to inquire about Smith for scoring and playmaking off Brett Brown's bench.
