4 Teams That Should Sign Corey Perry After Buyout
By Charles Nason
The Anaheim Ducks have finally ended a 14-year relationship with Corey Perry. After buying out Perry's contract, the Ducks say goodbye to an Anaheim legend. Perry, the third-leading scorer in Ducks' history and former NHL MVP, will now become a free agent. These four teams are in desperate need of a player like Perry: a right winger with veteran leadership and scoring notoriety.
4. Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings could certainly use help at the right wing position. With Anthony Mantha being the only notable name on the right side, and young stud Filip Zadina still playing in juniors, the Wings could use the experience and scoring of Perry. With well over $13.5 million in cap space, the Red Wings could snag Perry for the right price and boost the scoring coming from the right side.
3. Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes are in desperate need of scoring from every position. Last season, their highest scoring right winger was Richard Panik with just 33 points. Coming off a shortened season, Perry will be looking to get back to his old scoring ways, putting up 50-60 points per season. Although Arizona won't be able to offer Perry as much money as some other teams, he would bring valuable veteran experience and a scoring touch to the rebuilding Coyotes.
2. Montreal Canadiens
Corey Perry could be the perfect No. 2 right winger for the Canadiens. After the emergence of Brendan Gallagher this past season, Montreal needs a second-line winger who can fill in a significant scoring gap. With an over abundance of centers, the Canadiens need to be searching for wingers to pair with guys like Max Domi or Jonothan Drouin. If the Canadiens can land the experience of Perry for the right price, they could be a serious threat next season.
1. Ottawa Senators
With a massive amount of cap space and Bobby Ryan single-handedly holding down the right side, the Ottawa Senators need a guy like Perry. The Senators could seriously benefit from the scoring experience of Perry. Although their huge budget doesn't mean they should overpay for Perry, Ottawa needs to add another player who can provide points and leadership.
