49ers and Star DL Arik Armstead Reportedly Working on Contract Extension
By Karl Rasmussen
The San Francisco 49ers boasted one of the best defenses in football last year, and they're trying to retain as much of that talent as possible in 2020.
According to reports, the Niners and star defensive lineman Arik Armstead are in talks regarding a potential contract extension that would keep the former Oregon Duck in San Fran for the foreseeable future,
2019 was a dominant campaign for Armstead, who logged 10.0 sacks, 54 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 18 QB hits and two forced fumbles, all of which were career highs. In fact, prior to last year, Armstead had never recorded more than 3.0 sacks in a single season.
The 26-year-old edge rusher was drafted by the 49ers with the 17th overall pick back in 2015. The team doesn't have a lot of cap space to work with but they seem determined to do what it takes to keep Armstead in town.
Keeping Armstead appears to be a priority for GM John Lynch and Co., and rightfully so considering his contributions to the dominant defensive line the Niners deployed last year.
