49ers CB Richard Sherman Perfectly Sums up Why Wonderlic Test Doesn't Matter At All
By Andrew Gullotta
Five-time All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman is here to speak his mind in times when other perspectives need to be heard.
The 49ers' veteran explained how little the Wonderlic test means to players in the wake of everyone commenting on the low scores from Alabama stars Jerry Jeudy and Tua Tagovailoa. In short, Sherman says it doesn't matter at all.
With the draft right around the corner, analysts and scouts are buzzing about every latest development, and with the Wonderlic scores coming out over the last few days, it's been a big topic of discussion. But when you factor in Sherman's take, it makes you think.
Just to show how little Wonderlic scores matter, reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson recorded a 13 on the test, and he turned out just fine. Former shutdown cornerback Darrelle Revis posted a 10 and Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore scored a six.
Who had the highest score on the Wonderlic test? Former Bengals punter Pat McInaly. Who had the highest score for a quarterback? Journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick. These results show that a high score doesn't correlate to NFL success.
So when you're hearing excessive chatter about Wonderlic scores, be sure to take it all with a grain of salt because none of it really matters. Good thing Sherman was there to remind us of that.
