The San Francisco 49ers have ridden Raheem Mostert and a big-time defense in the playoffs thus far, and it's worked out quite well for them. But even if they prevail in Super Bowl LIV, they are planning on spending some time this season optimizing their D even further.

Right on cue, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Dallas Cowboys defensive passing game coordinator Kris Richard will be up for consideration to take over Joe Woods with the same position in San Francisco.

Richard has worked for the Cowboys for the past two seasons as defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator, but was not retained by Mike McCarthy as part of the new staff.

He previously helped optimize the Legion of Boom during a stint in Seattle, so his expertise at the back end of a defense is rightly considered second to none. Imagining what a Richard Sherman-led 49ers secondary could do with an infusion of Kris Richard's know-how should frighten the rest of the league.
