VIDEO: 49ers Stop Seahawks Inches Short of Goal Line to Win NFC West in Dramatic Fashion
By Scott Rogust
Football is a game of inches, and Sunday night proved just that. The Seattle Seahawks looked to be mounting a miraculous comeback against the San Francisco 49ers. Down 26-21, quarterback Russell Wilson forced Seattle's offense into 49ers territory. With mere seconds remaining, Wilson hit tight end Jacob Hollister on a crossing route, and the end zone was in plain sight. Instead, the 49ers stuffed him just a couple of inches short of the plane, winning the last NFL game of the decade -- and the NFC West division title.
The Seahawks will be haunted by the image of Dre Greenlaw making this stop for a good while. The only medicine? A trip to the Super Bowl.
That starts next weekend, as the Seahawks hit the road to face the Philadelphia Eagles.
As for the 49ers, they've officially clinched the conference's No. 1 seed, and will await their challenger in two weeks.
Football gods, if you're listening, please give us Seahawks-49ers III in the playoffs. We need a decisive series winner in a big, big way.
