49ers Fans Who Question Kyle Shanahan Are Among the Biggest Idiots in Sports

Most fanbases would be thrilled if their team ended up just one quarter away from a Super Bowl victory. Considering the San Francisco 49ers picked No. 2 overall in the prior year, you'd think that Kyle Shanahan, author of one of the great turnarounds in football history, would be receiving almost universal praise in the Bay Area.

Unfortunately, after choking away the Super Bowl and overseeing an offseason in which the only major move was the team trading away star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, some rogue 49ers fans have turned against the boy genius. Where I'm from, we have a word for these kinds of people.

Idiots.

Shanahan, a man who is such a brilliant offensive mind that he can lead the league in passing with Matt Schaub at age 29, make Brian Hoyer competent, and lead Jimmy Garoppolo to a Super Bowl, has clearly been a home run hire for John Lynch.

He is not perfect, as the last six minutes of Super Bowl LIV confirm. No coach is. However, the idea of bailing on such a promising star in the coaching ranks at age 40 because of one bad quarter of football is the definition of stupidity. 49ers fans don't realize how good they've got it with him at the helm.

Shanahan took a team that had Hoyer at quarterback and no direction whatsoever and had them a few minutes away from a Super Bowl with a quarterback that still hasn't shown us if he's elite or merely a product of a hyper-efficient offensive system.

The fact that a small gaggle of 49ers fans want him out is nothing short of mind-boggling. Would you prefer the Jim Tomsula days?
