49ers Could Be Gearing up for Blockbuster Trade Based on Latest Draft Buzz
By Jerry Trotta
It's NFL Draft week, which means that teams are finalizing plans to either trade up or down from their current selection in an effort to nab a certain player or stockpile draft capital.
Though they were widely expected to simply take the best wideout available, until recently, the San Francisco 49ers reportedly now fall under that very description. Per ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the reigning NFC champs are answering calls on both of their first-rounders: No. 13 and No. 31 overall.
Schefter notes that the 49ers don't draft again until the fifth round, so general manager John Lynch could be looking to acquire as many picks as possible.
This rumor has all of the makings of a blockbuster deal.
One could argue that San Francisco's roster is one of the deepest in the NFL, and that the team doesn't necessarily need to hoard picks. Lynch could simply be better off selecting the best players available at No. 13 and No. 31 overall.
However, given the impressive resume he's put together thus far -- he's responsible for drafting defensive end Nick Bosa, tight end George Kittle, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, and linebacker Fred Warner since taking over in 2017-- Niners Nation would be foolish to doubt the 48-year-old exec.
If a trade along these rumored lines comes to fruition, it could potentially shake up the entire first round, so stay tuned for updates as we inch closer to Thursday night.
