This 49ers-Panthers Trade for Curtis Samuel Could Actually Work
By Michael Luciano
The Carolina Panthers made a major addition at wide receiver this offseason when former Temple star and New York Jets wideout Robby Anderson signed a two-year deal with Matt Rhule, his old college coach, in Charlotte.
The signing of Anderson and the continued development of DJ Moore could force former second-round pick and Ohio State star Curtis Samuel out of town. If Carolina intends to sell, Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers should be proactive and try to swing a trade for him.
San Francisco would be a great landing spot for Samuel given his unique skillset, but they could find it difficult to swing a deal due to the fact that they don't have a second-, third-, or fourth-round pick in this draft.
While Samuel is undoubtedly an enticing prospect, he still won't break the bank in a potential trade. A third- or fourth-round pick in next year's draft should be enough to secure a trade for Samuel, who is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of this season.
Samuel's speed, separation, and versatility on offense are all prerequisites for playing wide receiver in a Shanahan offense. If San Francisco is serious about repeating as NFC champions, Samuel needs to be brought to the Bay Area.
