49ers Trading Matt Breida to Dolphins for 2020 Draft Pick
By Michael Luciano
Matt Breida's season ended in Miami when the San Francisco 49ers lost the Super Bowl, but he'll call Hard Rock Stadium home in 2020.
Breida was traded to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a fifth-round pick, which means that the 49ers will move forward with Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert as their starting backfield.
With the No. 153 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the selection San Francisco added in exchange for Breida, they drafted West Virginia offensive tackle Colton McKivitz. The former Mountaineer is an athletic blocker, but he really struggled at the Senior Bowl.
Breida, meanwhile, joins a Dolphins backfield that already features two power runners in Jordan Howard and Kalen Ballage. Last year, Ballage led the Dolphins, who had the worst running game in the NFL, which necessitated the need for a player like Breida.
Breida is a speed demon who had some solid moments in San Francisco, but the former Georgia Southern running back will head down to South Beach to jump start that running game and help a new-look Dolphins team.
