5 Biggest AL All-Star Snubs
By Ryan Flores
On Sunday, the stage was set for the 2019 MLB All-Star game, as the complete rosters for both the American League and National League were revealed. While there are many deserving players on the list for the AL, there were a few players that were snubbed from an appearance in Cleveland. Let's take a look at five players that deserved a spot in the midsummer classic.
5. Yoan Moncada
The Chicago White Sox infielder has moved on from an incredibly tough 2018, when he struck out 217 times and hit just .235 on the year. He's broken out in 2019, slashing .304/.357/.528 with 14 homers and 44 runs batted in. White Sox fans can't be too disappointed in this, as they have three All-Stars, but Moncada most certainly got snubbed here.
4. Rafael Devers
Devers has put all of his past struggles behind him to slash an awesome .322/.372/.525 with 12 homers and 50 runs batted in, but still didn't earn an All-Star nod. Believe it or not, Devers has an OPS that is 62 points higher than Mookie Betts, who was selected as a reserve. It's a surprise that Devers wasn't selected, but he'll most certainly be a future All-Star if he keeps on playing the way he has.
3. Xander Bogaerts
Another Red Sox star on the outside looking in at the midsummer classic. On the year, Bogaerts is slashing .299/.392/.540 with 16 homers and 57 runs batted in. He also has an AL-leading 27 doubles. Xander has arguably been better than fellow teammates Betts and J.D. Martinez, yet both will head to Cleveland while Bogaerts stays home.
2. Jose Berríos
Spots are limited in the All-Star game, but how can Jose Berríos possibly not be on the list? On the year, he's compiled a 2.89 ERA, with a 102:20 K:BB ratio in 112 innings of work. The Twins have been dominant this year, and deserve to have Berríos in the game alongside Jake Odorizzi, who is having a great year in his own right. I would much rather have had Baltimore Orioles outfielder Trey Mancini take an outfield spot, clearing a path for Berríos to the All-Star game rather than have John Means represent the O's.
1. Eddie Rosario
Rosario is quietly having another superb season for the Minnesota Twins, which makes it a shocker that he wasn't selected to represent the Twins at the All-Star game. On the year, Rosario is slashing .282/.312/.529, and has emerged as a big time slugger with 20 homers and 60 RBI. The Twins have dominated the AL Central, thanks in large part to Rosario, so it's a big disappointment to see all of that hard work won't culminate in an All-Star appearance.
