5 Blues Stanley Cup Champions Who Won't Be on the Team Next Season

The St. Louis Blues are the 2019 Stanley Cup Champions for the first time in franchise history. This Blues team climbed their way out of dead last in the NHL in the beginning of January and now sit atop the mountain as the last team standing. That being said, they surely cannot bring every rostered player back next season.

5. Chris Butler

Chris Butler did not appear in a single playoff game and only played in 13 regular season games all year for the Blues. With his contract running up this offseason, the 32-year-old may be looking for a new home this summer.

4. Chris Thorburn

Chris Thorburn played only one game all season long for the Blues, but was with the team to lift his first Stanley Cup in his 14-year career. If the 36-year-old forward doesn't call it a career after winning the Stanley Cup, he will be looking for a new team for next season.

3. Michael Del Zotto

Michael Del Zotto played a small role for the Blues this season, only appearing in seven games and none in the playoffs. With his $2.2 million contract expiring this summer, it wouldn't make much sense for St. Louis to bring him back next season.

2. Carl Gunnarsson

Carl Gunnarsson played a big role in the Stanley Cup run for the Blues, scoring the overtime game winning goal in Game 2 to even up the series at 1-1. If Vince Dunn weren't injured throughout the playoffs, it would have been Gunnarsson who would be sitting out, and with an expiring contract this summer, the 32-year-old will likely hit the open market.

1. Jake Allen

Jake Allen came into the season as the starting goalie for the Blues, but after early season struggles and failing to right the ship, he was replaced by rookie Jordan Binnington, who took the NHL by storm and led the Blues to the Stanley Cup. The Blues will need to free up some cap space to re-sign the rookie, and Allen is good enough to be a starting goalie on an NHL team. It makes sense for both sides to part ways.
