5 Players Lakers Should Sign if They Miss Out on Kawhi Leonard
By Scott Rogust
The Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes is running at a snails pace with no end in sight. One of the three teams heavily linked to the two-time NBA Finals MVP is the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lake Show has made sparse moves in free agency, and if they strike out on Leonard, they will have to rush and find a supporting cast for LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Here are five players the Lakers should sign if they miss out on Kawhi Leonard.
5. DeMarcus Cousins
How about a reunion in Hollywood? Cousins and Davis made for the NBA's most dangerous duo during their time with the New Orleans Pelicans. With reports of a waning market for Cousins currently, that could change once Leonard signs. Adding Cousins to Davis and LeBron would make the Lakers front court the strongest in the league.
4. Danny Green
Yes, the Lakers have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, two of the biggest starts in the league. When looking at successful basketball teams, they've always had quality perimeter shooting. Danny Green is waiting on the Kawhi Leonard decision and could potentially join him where he so chooses. However, the Lakers could make that difficult for him if they offer significant money. After losing out on JJ Redick, the Lakers need a three-point specialist, and Green fits the bill.
3. Andre Iguodala
This one is essentially a foregone conclusion. After being traded by the Golden State Warriors to the Memphis Grizzlies, reports have indicated that Andre Iguodala will be bought out and join the Lakers. What an advantage Los Angeles will have when facing the Warriors, as Iguodala knows the ins and outs of his former team.
2. Kyle Korver
As mentioned with Danny Green, the Los Angeles Lakers need a perimeter shooter. Why not add Kyle Korver as well? After recently being traded to the Phoenix Suns, the plan is for the veteran to be bought out. While Korver is no longer a starter, he'd be a quality option off the bench, which is something the Lakers need, given the bloated contracts of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
1. Marcus Morris
With LeBron and Davis both on the same team, you need tough guys to surround them. Marcus Morris fits that bill. Still on the market, the Lakers would be insane not to consider bringing in Morris, who's averaged 13.9 points and 6.1 rebounds in 27.9 minutes. Davis can play center, while Morris can start as the team's power forward for the 2019-20 season.
