Gigantic 5-Star 2020 TE Darnell Washington Commits and Signs With Georgia
By Jerry Trotta
Fresh off thumping Baylor in the Sugar Bowl on Wednesday night, Kirby Smart and Georgia scored another major win fewer than 24 hours later.
On Thursday, the Bulldogs officially landed 5-star 2020 tight end recruit Darnell Washington. He opted for Athens over other distinguished programs like Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and Miami. He becomes Georgia's third 5-star recruit in the 2020 class. And he's a big one.
"I am just excited to say that I am going to play for Georgia," Washington told 247Sports. "I cannot not wait to play in that atmosphere. It is crazy there."
In the end, Washington revealed that his decision came down to the Bulldogs and the Gators.
"It was close," he continued. "I would say Florida was No. 2 because of [tight ends] coach Larry Scott. I just felt better at Georgia. My mom loved Tennessee a lot and she was kind of down for a bit, but she is all in now."
247Sports' ever-reliable composite rankings tabs Washington as the No.10 overall prospect in his class, as well as the No. 1 recruit and No. 1 athlete in the state of Nevada.
Expect Washington and his 6-foot-7, 261-pound frame to make an immediate impact on a Georgia offense that will need to replace a lot of players this offseason.
What a get for Smart and Co. They don't rebuild -- they reload.
