5 Teams That Should Trade for Melvin Gordon
By Brendan Azoff
Talk about MASSIVE news. Per Adam Schefter, Melvin Gordon has told the Chargers that he will not report to camp if he does not receive a new contract, and he will request a trade if an agreement is not reached.
If this does happen, which five teams would benefit the most from adding Gordon? Here's a look at five teams who need to pick up the phone and make something happen.
5. Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens did add Mark Ingram Jr. this offseason, but by trading for Melvin Gordon they could create their own version of the Kamara/Ingram duo that gave opposing defenses fits for two years. Add in Lamar Jackson to the mix and you have one of the most dangerous backfields in the NFL, with three elite running options.
4. Indianapolis Colts
Marlon Mack is the Colts lead back right now, and after a decent 2018 which saw him rush for 908 yards and 9 touchdowns, he appears healthy enough to lead the Colts backfield. Health has always been the concern, and by adding Melvin Gordon, the Colts could gain two legitimate running backs that could alleviate each other's ailments and keep both players on the field for a full season.
3. Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles brought in Jordan Howard this offseason, but the former Chicago Bear has been wildly inconsistent throughout his career. After seeing a rash of injury problems the past two years, the Eagles understand how important depth is, and adding Melvin Gordon could put their offense on another level next season.
2. Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs backfield is rather lackluster, with Damien Williams and Carlos Hyde as the one-two combo. Granted this team is known for their aerial attack, adding Melvin Gordon would give Patrick Mahomes another passing option as well as open up the field for the young QB, giving him a running threat behind him.
1. Green Bay Packers
Aaron jones and Jamaal Williams showed flashes of talent last year, but can they be relied upon to truly help out Aaron Rodgers? Giving Rodgers help at the running back position has never been a top priority for the Packers due to his unbelievable talent, but if a player as good as Gordon becomes available, it would give the Packers one of the most dynamic offenses in the NFL.
