5 Ways the Patriots Can Clinch a Playoff Berth in Week 13
By Karl Rasmussen
At 10-1, the Patriots seem all but destined for another first-round bye in the playoffs this year. And as the season winds down, their path to the postseason is becoming more and more clear.
Well ahead of schedule, there's a chance the Patriots can clinch their playoff berth in Week 13, and here's what needs to happen for them to secure their spot in the postseason.
How Can the Patriots Clinch a Playoff Spot in Week 13?
As Tom Pelissero points out, there are five ways the Pats can clinch this week. First, the Patriots need a win on the road Sunday night against the Texans, no easy task. But, after getting the job done, they will also need to see one of the Raiders or Steelers lose in their matchups against the Chiefs and Browns, respectively, to earn their keep.
Alternatively, there are three other scenarios that could push New England into the playoffs if the Patriots tie this week. If they tie with Houston, the Patriots would then be reliant upon any combination of two out of the three of the Steelers, Colts and Raiders losing.
A loss, obviously, would prevent the Pats from clinching this weekend.
While a few more wins would guarantee them a playoff berth regardless, Bill Belichick and Co. could complete the job early if things go their way in Week 13. And that all starts with avoiding a loss to the 7-4 Texans.
