Plenty of NHL players have participated in the Stanley Cup Finals throughout the years, but few have been able to take over a single game and carry their team to the finish line. Here are the six best single-game Stanley Cup performances.
6. Jari Kurri
Kurri had five points in a 7-2 win in the 1990 Stanley Cup Final, scoring three times and adding two assists when the Oilers beat the Bruins 7-2 in Game 2.
5. Bobby Orr
The iconic overtime goal that's been emblazoned all across New England is more than enough to get Orr notoriety here; finishing off a four-game sweep of the St. Louis Blues in 1970 with an OT snipe and iconic dive makes for possibly the greatest singular moment in Cup Finals history.
4. Kirk McLean
The Vancouver Canucks goalie stole Game 1 of the 1994 Stanley Cup Final against the New York Rangers, stopping 52 shots (and 17 in overtime) to propel the Canucks to a 3-2 win to open the series.
3. Peter Forsberg
In 1996, Peter Forsberg had a hat trick, scoring three times to beat the Panthers 8-1 in Game 2. His hat trick put the Avalanche in the drivers seat, allowing them to sweep the series.
2. Mike Bossy
Bossy scored three goals in Game 1 of the 1982 Stanley Cup Final against the Canucks, giving the Islanders a 6-5 win, with his last two goals tying, then winning the game for the dynastic Isles.
1. Wayne Gretzky
In Game 3 of the 1985 Stanley Cup Final, Gretzky had a hat trick that set the Oilers up for a 4-3 win over the Flyers, scoring two goals in the first two minutes of the game. That's how you become an icon.
