6 NFL Training Camp Position Battles We Can't Wait For
The NFL season is right around the corner with training camp starting next month. With a new season comes new faces, and with new faces comes a brand new preview of our six favorite potential training camp battles.
6. John Brown vs. Zay Jones
Zay Jones showed a ton of potential last season, but the young receiver was inconsistent, likely due to the fact the Bills have limited weapons on offense. Now, with John Brown in the mix, expect these guys to battle for targets as Josh Allen looks to spread the ball in his second season.
5. James Washington vs. Donte Moncrief
This one could go under the radar in camp this year, but the need for the Steelers to find a receiving threat opposite of JuJu Smith-Schuster is crucial. The exodus of Antonio Brown leaves open an opportunity for someone to step up and produce for a desperate Pittsburgh team. This one could have a serious impact on both the roster and fantasy football leagues.
4. Jordan Howard vs. Miles Sanders
The Eagles have two new running backs who are expected to take the lead for Philly this year. Howard was acquired from Chicago where he fell out of favor with head coach Matt Nagy, and Sanders was the Eagles' second-round pick this year. With how the Eagles like to spread the ball, Sanders could be better suited for playing time early and often.
3. Dwayne Haskins vs. Case Keenum
The rookie from Ohio State fell right into Washington's lap during the 2019 NFL Draft, while Alex Smith's injury forced Washington's hand in trading for Keenum. Expect the veteran to begin the season as QB1, but with an exciting rookie in the wings and an empty stadium in DC, Keenum will have a short leash.
2. Matt Breida vs. Tevin Coleman vs. Jerick McKinnon
The 49ers spent big on the running back position this offseason, resulting in a crowded backfield. All three guys have shown they can be a lead back, but only Breida has shown the 49ers' staff firsthand. McKinnon is looking to bounce back from a torn ACL in his first season with San Francisco, and Tevin Coleman just signed this offseason.
1. Josh Rosen vs. Ryan Fitzpatrick
Both Rosen and Fitzpatrick come to Miami after spending last year with different teams, and both come with headlines of their own. Rosen was traded from Arizona after the Cards selected Kyler Murray with the top pick, while Fitzmagic's wild start to the season in Tampa Bay caught everyone's attention. Will Rosen take a giant leap forward and grab the job, or will the veteran win out in camp?
