76ers Players You Would've Never Guessed Led the Team in Scoring
By Emily Adams
The Philadelphia 76ers had some incredible stars back in the 90s and early 2000s — think Charles Barkley and Allen Iverson — and they've finally found their new guy in Joel Embiid.
However, they went through a pretty bizarre stretch for a long time. Philly fans had to trust the process, and these random players ended up scoring leaders as a result.
4. Thaddeus Young
Young may not be a complete surprise, but he played most of his time with the Sixers in the shadow of Andre Iguodala. He was also wildly inconsistent, scoring barely more than 800 points in 2011–12, but then somehow put up 1417 and led the team in 2014–15. Despite a solid point total, Young and the Sixers went 19–63 that season.
3. Robert Covington
Covington was the best player on a really terrible 2014-15 team when he led the Sixers in scoring. He posted 943 points — the second-best total of his career — and led the team to a depressing 18–64 record. Covington is actually a pretty decent defender, so the fact that he was the leading scorer tells you everything you need to know about this squad.
2. Lou Williams
Lou Williams has had a much more successful back half of his career. The 2011–12 season when he led the Sixers was one of his most mediocre. He was the highest scorer with less than 1,000 points and he was traded away the next season. Williams scored fewer than 1,000 points in five of seven seasons with the Sixers, but has been over 1,000 in six of eight with other teams.
1. Dario Šarić
This is if you even remembered that Dario Šarić played with the Sixers. Šarić has not received a single accolade since his rookie season in 2017, which is the year he led the team in scoring. He managed to put up 1,040 points, which makes sense since no other player on the roster played in more than 70 games.
