76ers Decide to Throw More Fuel on the Fire and Replace Al Horford With Furkan Korkmaz in Starting Lineup
By Michael Luciano
The Philadelphia 76ers are much too talented to be stuck in sixth place in the East. In an attempt to shake things up, Brett Brown is putting the screws not to Ben Simmons or Joel Embiid, but to free agent acquisition Al Horford.
Horford has been relegated to the bench, and red hot 3-point specialist Furkan Korkmaz will start over him in Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
But in doing so, Brown might've poured gas on an open tire fire.
Horford has started all 49 games this year for the Sixers, but is averaging just 12.1 points and 6.7 boards per game. Horford, just a 32% 3-point shooter, is finding it hard to co-exist with two other big men who can't shoot efficiently in Embiid and Simmons.
Korkmaz has taken a while to develop, but the Turkish sharpshooter is finally showing signs that he's a first-round talent. He's averaging 9.7 points per game, but his 40% 3-point shooting is even more valuable on a Sixers team struggling to find answers in that department.
Korkmaz has the hot hand, but the benching of Horford has a ton of impact beyond the basketball court, as this could cause some serious negative rumblings in a tenuous 76ers locker room.
